Chris gave me the following information about his mother:
Eileen survived a plane crash in 1953/4. The BOAC plane crashed in Tripoli in a sandstorm. About 50 passengers were killed. Chris says it didn't put her off flying.
She also survived a car crash when she was a passenger in a car driven by Charles Melville. He had gone to pick her up at Winchester station.
